#EdAppHack: Saturday, October 25th & Sunday, October 26th

We’re going to be joining learners, teachers and community app developers this weekend at the MaRS Discovery District for the #EdAppHack, a two-day learning opportunity, using the Hackathon model to address the changing dialogue between students and their teachers, mentors, and  industry professionals. #EdAppHack will be focusing on the theme of STEM and using the hands-on experience to address concerns and talking points on the changing nature of education, all while creating original apps and with the aide of various supportive  collaborators. There’s also going to be a keynote by Robleh Jama, founder of Tiny Hearts,  an award winning app studio based here in Toronto, and lots of industry professionals from all ends of Toronto.

Both students and teachers will be able to get their hands dirty, work together and collaborate to brainstorm, build and pitch their app ideas, and it’s all going down this weekend.  To get involved, visit edapphack.com and sign up.

theScore is Hiring Developers!

Looking for a great job, with a great company? Check out this listing from theScore:

theScore – the maker of one of the most downloaded sports apps in North America is looking for talented Ruby and iOS developers to join their team. Read below for what they’re looking for at each position:

Ruby:

theScore App is the best sports app available, with over 3.5 million monthly users. Our apps on iOS, Android, and Blackberry are amongst the most popular and highest rated out there. Our rivals are big players like ESPN and Yahoo! Sports.

We’re looking for a talented and passionate Ruby on Rails developer to help build and scale the modern API that powers our apps. You will be working with smart, friendly, and dedicated Ruby/Rails developers on one of Toronto’s top Ruby teams. You’ll get to push updates to over 3.5 million users daily on our modern stack: nginx, Varnish, Rails, RSpec, Resque, Backbone, Angular, Redis, MySQL, Amazon Web Services, Chef, and Urban Airship. We use GitHub to manage all of our code and are big believers in code reviews.

The ideal candidate has experience with some of the above technologies, but wanting to work with them is the most important thing. Knowledge of sports is a plus, but not a requirement.

IOS:

theScore Inc. is seeking a talented and passionate IOS developer to help build and extend one of the best sports apps on the market. The ideal candidate will possess 2+ years experience creating IOS apps.

You will be working with a team of smart, friendly, and dedicated developers in one of Toronto’s top Ruby shops. You’ll also get to push updates to over 3.5 million users every week.  As part of the development team, you will work along side a team of expert mobile developers from other platforms to deliver a seamless sports app experience across all mobile.

Enjoy free snacks, all the coffee and Vitamin Water you can drink, get your game on in FIFA ’14 and collaborate with some of the best developers in Toronto. Check out our space conveniently located in the downtown King West area recently featured in the Globe and Mail’s “Amazing Space”.

SurfEasy is hiring! Could you be their next developer?

SurfEasy is hiring!

We’re looking for a front end web developer to join our team! Could it be you?

Here’s a little bit about us:

Our beginnings…

SurfEasy started in 2012 out of a desire to enable people to protect their online privacy and security. Our CEO and founder Chris Houston asked himself, “Just how many Wi-Fi networks do I connect to on a daily basis?” Sixteen networks later he knew there was a real need for online privacy on the go. And so the idea for our Private Browser was born.

With the help of the Kickstarter community, who helped us exceed our funding goal by over 555%, we launched at CES 2012. Today, the browser is used by customers in over 55 countries.

What’s next…

In mid-June, we’re releasing SurfEasy VPN for iOS, Android, OSX and Windows. This next-generation of our product portfolio extends the SurfEasy protection our customers know and love to every device they use to access the web. All Internet traffic in and out of computers, smartphones and tablets will be encrypted through our global SurfEasy Private Network.

That means our user’s personal information is safe and secure from prying eyes; consider it a secure tunnel to the Internet – all in an easy-to-use package. Want to check it out? Download SurfEasy VPN on Google Play and iTunes.

Why you want to work with us…

We’re a friendly and dedicated team of devs, PR, marketing and sales folks. Sharing our King Street West office space with other start-ups means the energy here is palpable. We work hard but never hesitate to connect over a beer from the fridge, conveniently situated near our printer.

The opportunity for growth is high so the sky is the limit. You’ll have the opportunity to share your ideas, be heard and manage projects.

If you’re results-oriented and love a challenge, you’ll fit right in. Don’t delay. Apply today! Visit our Careers page to apply for the web developer position. We can’t wait to hear from you.
