Free Code Ninja Lessons for Kids

Hey DevTO community!

Know any kids that would like to learn to code? Well there is a great and free event happening this Sunday, September 15 at the CSI.

From 10 A.M. – 1 P.M. kids from ages 10-17 are invited to come down and to “work proactively to eliminate gender and socioeconomic barriers to computer science by providing a no-cost way for young people to experience programming early—and have fun doing it!”

CoderDojoTO is a free, friendly environment where kids can learn programming. Their aim is to provide free and open learning to youth, with a special emphasis on computer programming. Start those kids early and open them up to a world of possibilities and opportunities.

9 tickets are left, and you can buy them here.

The hashtag for the event is #CoderDojoTO, and if you’re interested in mentoring or just plain volunteering, drop them a line!

Happy Wednesday!

Anita

MakerKids!

Hey DevTO community!

You’ve heard of us gabbing about the great maker movement and the Toronto Mini Maker Faire (that’s happening in only a couple weeks! Tickets are 50% off now!), but have you heard about MakerKids? Now your kids have a chance to be inspired, to think creatively and to hone in on those great talents with Toronto’s MakerKids!

MakerKids is a makerspace for youth in Toronto. They offer hands-on after school programs, open shops for kids, teens and adults, workshops, Minecraft programs and birthday parties for adults and kids based on 3D printing, electronics, woodworking, programming, sewing, crafting and making of all kinds! Their 10 week after school programs are starting next week: Inventions on Mondays and Robotics on Wednesdays.

To register for these programs and other events for kids, teens or adults, sign-up at http://makerkids.eventbrite.ca/

Have a great weekend!
